Project Protei

Cesar Harada (France + Japan) is the Coordinator of "Protei", an articulated sailing drone that is designed to clean up Oil Spill. Cesar is also the coordinator of Open_Sailing, the group that is developing the "International_Ocean_Station" ; both Protei and the International_Ocean_Station being Open Hardware projects. Cesar is a TED senior Fellow and MPhil candidate at the University of Goldsmiths in the department of Design and Environment. Cesar is also Social Entrepreneurs of New Orleans Accelerator Associate. Cesar shares his time between the Gulf of Mexico studying the aftermaths of the BP Oil Spill, and London where he teaches Master students in Design. Former project leader at MIT in Boston USA, construction manager of mobile technology incubator in Nairobi Kenya, wave energy machine prototype maker in Southampton University, Cesar recently graduated from Design Interactions at the Royal College of Art London. His final project is Open_Sailing, the collaborative project that won the ARS Electronica [Next Idea] grant 2009. Cesar graduated from Ecole Boulle Paris with historical results in 2001. In 2006 he completed the animation course at ENSAD Paris, studied graphic design at Central Saint Martins London, industrial design at the ENSCI, building a trimaran on which he travelled and made an animation film. He wrote his ENSAD thesis “Troubles in Space Perception” (2005), "HARADA" (2006) launched at the Pompidou Center, now writing “Open_Architecture” (2010). He taught AV at the Architecture School of Versailles. His films, performances and installations have been participating many festivals and international prestigious venues in the USA, Japan, France, Greece, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Russia... He lectured at V2_ Rotterdam, Barbican London, CCCB Barcelona, Goldsmiths University London, Carnegie Mellon U. Pittsburgh, MIT Media Lab Cambridge...
